In a recent report titled 'India's State of Environment 2023 in Figures', Madhya Pradesh has emerged as the leading state in terms of agriculture, with the highest share of net value added and experiencing significant growth in production of food grains. The report also highlights the troubling fact that almost half of the growing area in the state remains uninsured.

Madhya Pradesh first in agriculture

A key area where Madhya Pradesh has taken the lead is in net value added by agriculture, forest and fisheries. This indicator reflects the value of production generated by the agricultural and related sectors in the state's economy. Madhya Pradesh secured the top spot among the surveyed states, indicating its significant contribution to the overall output of the agricultural sector.

The report highlights the remarkable achievement of Madhya Pradesh in the production of food grains. The state witnessed substantial growth in food grain production in 2021-22 compared to the previous year, positioning it as a leader in ensuring food security. This achievement is vital not only to meet the food needs of the state's population, but also to contribute to the nation's food self-sufficiency.

The report sheds light on the achievements of the agricultural sector in Madhya Pradesh and draws attention to the need for more crop insurance coverage. It serves as a valuable resource for policymakers, researchers, and environmental enthusiasts in assessing the country's progress toward a sustainable future.
