20 MPs met the union health minister, Mansukh Mandviya to appeal for the construction of an AIIMS hospital in Bihar’s district, Saharsa.
The meeting took place on Tuesday when the MPs from different states across India came together to hold a delegation with the Union Health Minister, Mansukh Mandviya. The delegation focussed on the issues in Bihar pertaining to extreme poverty and floods in the region of Saharsa. The 20 MPs appealed to the health minister for constructing the AIIMS super specialty hospital in the Saharsa district. The aim behind the construction will enable patients suffering from Cancer, kidney, heart problems, etc to access the health facilities immediately when required.
What was the delegation about?
The delegation of the 20 MPs with the health minister was led by Madhepura MP, Dinesh Chandra Yadav. Dinesh Chandra Yadav on behalf of the 20 parliamentarians handed over a letter to the health minister seeking the construction of a super specialty hospital (AIIMS) in the Saharasa district (prone to floods and poverty).
The letter given to the health minister expressed the lack of healthcare infrastructure in the district. The rate of heart problems, kidney failure, cancer, and other related diseases has risen to a higher rate in the northeastern region of India. As a result, the people who require immediate care are not getting the essentials.
The letter further stated that the district’s magistrate had already communicated to the state government to provide the availability of 217.74 acres of land to build the AIIMS hospital but the government decided to provide the land in Darbangha.
Why is there a need to build AIIMS in Saharsa?
The trending hashtag #AIIMS for Saharsa has taken over the Twitter handle. The Twitter users have commented- #AIIMS”; “We need AIIMS in Saharsa because we witness a large scale of migration every year with the entire flood-prone areas remaining in grip of extreme poverty”
Bihar is a state of India that lacks a standard health infrastructure with equipped tools. The region is prone to many natural disasters, floods being the most common.
Extreme poverty is another factor that demands the immediate construction of a super-specialty hospital like AIIMS. Apart from this Bihar is not only a flood-prone area but also prone to human trafficking. The majority of the population in Bihar lives under the poverty line as a result it takes a lot of time for the poor people to recover from such disasters and find jobs to fulfill their basic needs.
