Several districts in western and central Rajasthan have been severely affected by a flash flood situation triggered by today's storm. The region has experienced the wrath of a violent western disturbance, which has brought heavy rain and wreaked havoc in affected areas.

Bikaner, one of the hardest-hit districts, witnessed a record rainfall of 73mm at 5:30 pm breaking the previous historical record for the heaviest rainfall in a 24-hour period during the month of May. The previous record of 63.1mm was set on May 23, 1999.

Over the past 24 hours, isolated areas in eastern Rajasthan experienced heavy rainfall, while thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and light to moderate rainfall were reported in various pockets across the state. Unfortunately, the severe weather conditions have had tragic consequences, with a total of 13 rain and storm-related deaths reported in the past two days.

According to the Disaster Relief and Management Department, there were ten deaths in Tonk, while one death was recorded in Alwar, Jaipur and Bikaner. The state government is actively assessing the extent of storm and rain damage in various districts. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot expressed his condolences and announced compensation of Rs 5 lakhs for the relatives of the deceased.

In response to the situation, Prime Minister Gehlot tweeted in Hindi: "The state government will provide all possible help to the victims. I pray for the peace of the souls of those who lost their lives in this disaster."
