Communal Teachers of India, Case of Delhi’s Hema Gulati
The Delhi Police booked Hema Gulati, a Delhi government school teacher, on Tuesday. They allege that she used communal slurs against three or four Muslim students in her Class 9. The students claimed that the incident occurred while they were celebrating the success of the Chandrayaan-3 Moon mission on August 23.
The Delhi Police is investigating Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya teacher Hema Gulati, as they have registered a case against her based on the complaints lodged by the students' families.
Hema Gulati made derogatory comments on Wednesday, criticizing the Quran and Kaaba - the holiest shrine in Islam located in Saudia Arabia's Mecca, as stated in the complaint filed on Friday.
The complaint quoted the teacher as saying, "You did not go to Pakistan during Partition. You stayed in India. You have no contribution in India's freedom."
“She told our boys that Muslims are bad and spoke extensively about our religious texts, worship places… She told the class that Muslims use animal skin at their religious places. The things said in the class are horrible and make no sense. She targeted the students and told them Muslims haven’t done anything for the country since the Independence…” said a family member of one of the students.
Teacher incites Muslim student assault
A school teacher in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar asked her students to slap a Muslim boy and also passed objectionable remarks against the community, as shown in a viral video. This Delhi incident closely follows the mentioned incident.
The boy's family lodged a complaint against the teacher, Tripta Tyagi, under IPC sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) - both non-cognizable offenses.
Teachers booked for punishing student
Police have booked two teachers in the Kathua district of Jammu for allegedly administering corporal punishment to a student who had written “Jai Shri Ram” on the blackboard. The government higher secondary school in the Bani area of Kathua reported the incident on Friday and lodged a case on Saturday, said police. They have identified the accused teacher as Farooq Ahmad.
The police said that they have also booked the principal of the school, Mohammad Hafiz, in the case. While they have arrested Ahmad, the principal is absconding. The duo are facing charges under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 342 (wrongful confinement), 504 (intentional insult), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 75 (cruelty to child) of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.
Teacher suspended for communal remarks
In 2022, a primary school assistant teacher named Naaz Parveen from Sadpur got into an argument with another teacher. They exchanged communal and casteist remarks. The district education department suspended Naaz Parveen and assigned the Block Education Officer Nakur to investigate.
The investigation found that Naaz Parveen used inappropriate language, violated conduct and teacher rules, leading to her suspension. During her suspension, she will be associated with BRC Nakur.
