Ground Report | New Delhi: Karnataka police to recruit transgenders; The Karnataka government has called for applications from transgender candidates for recruitment into the state police department for the first time.

According to a notice published by the Additional Director General of Police (Recruitment), five of the 70 positions are reserved for transsexuals. Applicants can submit their applications online from December 12 to January 18.

The Forensic Science Laboratory has also invited applications to fill 206 Crime Scene Officer positions with three openings reserved for transgender people. Applicants have until January 15 to submit applications online. The Karnataka Civil Services (General Recruitment) Rules, 1977, were amended to give a 1% reserve for transgender people.

The notification is published by the Additional Director General of Police (Recruitment). Of the 70, five posts are reserved for transgender people. Eligible transgender candidates can apply for online posts until January 18.

In addition to this, three positions have been reserved for transgender candidates in the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for Crime Scene Officer (SOCO). Applications can be submitted until January 15.

Chhattisgarh police hire transgenders

In early March, the Chhattisgarh police recruited 13 transgender people as police officers in four districts of the state.

In 2014, the Supreme Court recognized the transgender community as a third gender along with men and women and ruled that they have the same privilege over the fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution.
