Jharkhand mine collapse: Three dead, several feared trapped

A tragic incident occurred at the Bhowra Colliery area of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) in Dhanbad, Jharkhand. The collapse of an illegal coal mine has resulted in the loss of at least three lives, and it is feared that several others may be trapped or injured. The incident took place at around 10:30 am, approximately 21 km from Dhanbad.

According to a PTI report, the exact number of victims and the status of those trapped or injured has yet to be determined, as stated by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Sindri, Abhishek Kumar.

An eyewitness told PTI that numerous villagers were involved in illegal mining activities when the mine suddenly collapsed. Local residents rallied to help pull three people out of the rubble, who were later rushed to a hospital. Unfortunately, the doctors at the hospital pronounced them dead.

A witness said that many local villagers were involved in illegal mining when the mine collapsed. "With the help of locals, three people were pulled from the rubble and taken to a hospital where doctors pronounced them dead," the eyewitness said.

A survey was conducted in 5 districts of Jharkhand, namely Ranchi, Dhanbad, Ramgarh, Chatra and Bokaro, among 6,000 coal workers, including 4,000 workers in the organized sector such as thermal power plants and mines, and 2,000 workers in the informal sector.
