Police arrested Journalist under various sections of the Indian Penal Code

Ground Report | New Delhi: In the northeastern state of Manipur, cases of harassment and suppression of journalists have increased rapidly. The government does not like any journalist who is pointing fingers against Government through social media.

In the latest case, a journalist and a human rights activist have been arrested as they wrote in their social media posts that cow urine and cow dung Covid are not treated. He wrote this post after the death of state BJP President Tikendra Singh from covid infection. National Security Act (NSA) has been imposed against journalist Kishorechandra Wangkhem.

Last week Manipur Pradesh BJP President Saikhom Tikendra Singh died of Corona infection. Then journalist Kishorechandra Wangkhem wrote in one of his Facebook posts, ‘Cow dung and cow urine did not work. This argument is baseless. Tomorrow I will eat fish.’ Similarly, a human rights activist, Ariandro Lichombam, wrote, ‘Dung and cow urine does not cure corona. It is possible to cure only with science and it is a matter of common knowledge. Professor G. RIP.’

Many organizations have also appealed to the National Human Rights Commission to intervene in this matter. In a tweet on Sunday, Mumbai Press Club strongly condemned these arrests and demanded that they be released soon.


A senior journalist from Manipur, on the condition of anonymity, says, ‘After the BJP came to power, harassment cases against journalists in the state are steadily increasing. When on which post or report, we have been accused of treason It will be difficult to say that he will be sent to jail. The government is unable to tolerate its criticism. ‘ He says that the news of harassment happening here usually does not reach other parts of the country.
